We know that there is some consideration given in the war matchmaking for hidden offense and defense values, so I don't think my alliance would ever be matched up against an opponent like you describe. We only have 1 Atomic player in the whole group- a far cry from 28 high level atomic players! We're made up of a much more casual group of players though. My alliance is near 20,000 glory but has never seen anything like the matchup you're describing. What you're saying here is very interesting, and I think illuminates another point we have barely touched on in this conversation. But this team surely would have paid to win, if they had gone without the bags and met a comparable opponent. There was no pay to win - they didn't need to, and we only tried to max AXP. Our opponent had 28 high level atomic bases with mostly yellow walls, followed by 12 bags - medieval age and below, 4 were level 9-12 iron ages. We have 10 atomics, several of them quite early from the rush, and a distribution down to industrial, with a few enlightenment / gunpowder at the bottom. More likely those would be a medieval or classical bag. This "offensively powerful" sandbag is not what we see much of, but I included where they would be just for fun. I adjusted your scenario to show the type of matchup we actually see. There are a lot of exceptions out there - but you don't find many of them once you get over 20k glory. I am assuming a skilled attacker who has an age appropriate offense. We had one who still had enlightenment troops. There are a lot of crappy globals out there. The VAST majority of alliances end up in wars at least similar to the one I've outlined above (with or without the sandbagging bases).Īnyway, been meaning to write this out for a while, so thank you for bearing with me. One final note: I know this doesn't hold true in the P2W world wars and such, but at that level they're really playing a different game. Every sandbag on the opposing team improves my own teams offense by improving our attack efficiency. This is a bit more than just a thought exercise, my alliance frequently wins wars in this way. our Atomic player has defensive coalitions) the enemy will have a very hard time matching our stars. In particular, if our top defenses are strong, (EX. Now, the enemy may still have a stronger offense- but if they're attacking directly across (as most alliances tend to) they are still in for a series of challenging fights. they have also improved the offense of my ENTIRE team! The sandbagging players have improved their personal offense, yes. We are likely to 5* a significant portion of the enemy bases in the first wave of attacks, with a full second attack from everyone ready for cleanup. Our first round of attack is actually at a huge advantage, with the majority of our players attacking an age below them. We can have our lowest ranked players attack the sandbagging bases, everyone adjust their targets, and suddenly our first round of attacks looks like this: Our opponents clearly seem to have the edge.īut do they really? Notice the three sandbagging bases our opponent has, while ours all have strong defenses. We're outmatched at least a bit in every age category. *Bases are sandbagging bases, like the one picture in OPĪt first glance this looks pretty awful for us. Let me illustrate this further with a full example. In fact, because he 5* their #9, he has just improved the attack efficency of everyone fighting at that level of conflict of the war- and because their attack efficiency is improved, it improves the attack efficiency of everyone below them. I can send him to go sack that player, score an easy 5 star, and suddenly his second attack isn't worthless at all. My bottom player would normally only be able to attack the other bottom player- his other attack would be largely worthless, since he isn't going to come close to 5* any other opposing player- except the opposing team has a defenseless player. The opposing team has a player with the posted base as their #9. For instance, imagine a decently common scenario- 15x15 war, and the bottom ranked player on both my and the opposing team is iron age. With the way war works, though, I still question the wisdom in sandbag bases.Įach player only gets two attacks, so if there is a player with a defenseless base, it improves the other teams attack efficiency. Strange, our Industrial players seem to stop global players from achieving 5* quite frequently.
